NEET rank vs college: reading last season’s cut-offs correctly
A rank is meaningless until you read it against the right quota, the right category and the right counselling round.
Students often compare their rank against a single closing-rank table they found online, and conclude that a college is out of reach. That table is usually the All-India Quota round 1 list.
Closing ranks move — sometimes a great deal — between round 1, round 2, the mop-up round and the stray vacancy round. They also differ by state quota, category and institute type.
Read your rank against the correct combination and a college you had written off may still be open in a later round. This is exactly the analysis our counsellors do on your file before choice locking.
